Luke 22:33-34 “And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death. And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.”
Peter must have been startled at this response from the Savior.
At that moment, he had a passionate zeal for the Lord and was confident in his ability both to live and to die for Him.
Perhaps he failed to see the significance of Jesus’ words two verses earlier, when He said “Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat.”
The challenges Peter and the other disciples were to face in coming days were too big for them.
Spiritual challenges are always too big for us. We must rely on someone bigger than any trial – and that is God.
Fear will be a factor, as it was for Peter. We will be tested, we will have doubts, we will want to take the easy way. Instead, let us look to the Lord.
