Matthew 5:14-15 “Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on an hill cannot be hid. Neither do men light a candle, and put it under a bushel, but on a candlestick; and it giveth light unto all that are in the house.”
Jesus described Himself as the light of the world. His followers are reflectors of His light.
We, who have placed our faith in Him, have a tremendous opportunity.
As we allow Him to shine through us, we can reveal reality, where darkness otherwise conceals it.
No doubt, the light will uncover sin (and condemnation because of it), but it also reveals the work of Christ and the salvation He provides.
Our job is to put ourselves in positions that give His light the greatest chance for reaching hidden places. On a hill and on a candle stick, that’s where the light belongs.
We can do so many things to hide His light: allow our flesh to control us, remain silent out of fear, return to the bondage of sin, or just remain inactive.
We must not. He has given us a task, to be His witnesses worldwide.
