Redeeming the time

Colossians 4:5-6 “Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man.”

We need wisdom in dealing with every person in our lives, but perhaps especially with those that are outside Christ. Taking always into account the short time we have, and the short time they have, we walk and speak. This verse gives us an outline for how we should do both.

Walking in wisdom is walking in the way God would have us to walk, understanding and obeying His word. Our speech should be sprinkled with the word of God, but always with grace. A commitment to this kind of walking and this kind of speaking helps us to have answers. Those answers are a result of both our relationship with God, and our proper use of His word.

We redeem the time when we take no breaks from living our lives in this way. Those that are “without” will see, hear, and be affected. Every relationship will be better, thanks to our wise walk.
