Colossians 3:1-2 “If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God. Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
If we, once dead in trespasses and sins, are made alive in Christ, it only makes sense that we would seek things above.
Our acceptance of God’s free gift of salvation, by faith, changes us forever. But it doesn’t remove us from these sinful bodies of flesh, or transport us out of this cursed world.
Our battle to crucify the flesh and avoid conformity to the world continues.
There is no doubt that we will have the desire to serve God, but we must cultivate that desire.
We begin by walking daily in His word, nurturing a constant prayer life, in fellowship with His church.
These are not merely religious exercises. They mechanisms by which we grow, both in knowledge, and in affection for things above.
We are still citizens of earth, but we also hold a citizenship above.
Born again into that citizenship, with great thankfulness and joy, we must lift our eyes from earthly things and gaze above.
