Matthew 8:7-8 “And Jesus saith unto him, I will come and heal him. The centurion answered and said, Lord, I am not worthy that thou shouldest come under my roof: but speak the word only, and my servant shall be healed.”
This centurion had a servant lying paralyzed at home and he was suffering terribly.
Obviously, Jesus offered here, to come and heal him.
But this centurion understood authority. And apparently he understood – believed – that Jesus had all authority. And he said “speak the word only.”
This man had soldiers under his authority. If he said “go and do this” it would be done.
He knew that, if he could do that, certainly Jesus could just speak and it would be done. And that was the truth.
This kind of simple, but powerful faith, is rare. In fact, Jesus marvelled, and He said “I have not found so great faith, no, not in Israel.”
I wonder what we believe about Jesus, and if we trust in this way.
He has all authority. He is over everything and everyone. And He can be trusted.
