Stedfast in the faith

I Peter 5:8-9 “Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour: Whom resist stedfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.”

The Christian life is to be taken seriously, because we have an enemy.

He is actively seeking to cause us harm and ruin our testimony for Christ.

Avoiding his schemes takes sobriety and vigilance. These words mean to watch, to be calm and collected in spirit and to pay close attention, being cautious.

We are not to forget that we have an enemy, but instead to be ever-mindful and circumspect.

The devil is to be resisted, as we walk a consistent life of faith. Ever-clinging to Jesus, reliant upon His words, submissive to His will.

We can have success in the battle. This roaring lion will not defeat the stedfast in faith.

He is dangerous – but in Christ we find safety.
