I Peter 5:5 “Likewise, ye younger, submit yourselves unto the elder. Yea, all of you be subject one to another, and be clothed with humility: for God resisteth the proud, and giveth grace to the humble.”
The idea that we should be subject one to another is clear in the New Testament. God places us within the local church for close fellowship and loving accountability.
Still, we may rarely think of this principle and sometimes have the feeling we are free-agents for God.
If pressed on the matter we would admit mutual dependence, but (perhaps because of pride) may rely heavily on self-sufficiency.
This is an unfortunate thing, because this command seeks to do nothing more than help us.
What a wonderful example it is to see a young Christian humbly and carefully hearing and learning from an elder.
Each receives benefit. Each honors God.
In doing this, we may push each toward a deeper relationship with Christ and remind ourselves of the mission we are meant to carry out together.
And we are a good testimony to anyone that may be watching.
