Acts 3:5-6 “And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them. Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”
Isn’t it just like God to give us more than we expect? A beggar hopes for a little spare change and is delighted to receive so much more. It’s certain that this man expected money. He laid at that gate for the very purpose of receiving enough for his daily bread.
A hint of disappointment may have even come to heart when he heard the first few words Peter spoke. The Apostle had nothing financial to bless the beggar with – but that wasn’t the end of the story. This man woke up in the morning with low expectations for the day. Just enough to get by was perhaps his only wish. The loving hand of the Savior reached out with much more indeed.
It seems sinners like ourselves should be content with the riches of salvation alone, yet Christ offers blessings in abundance. We are beggars that should have humble hopes, but God instead provides miracles.
