John 1:29 “The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.”
For anyone knowing and understanding the Old Testament scriptures, this would have been an exciting declaration. It’s an exciting declaration for us today!
John meant that this Jesus was the lamb who could wash away, not just cover, all sin. He was the perfect lamb of God, sinless, the foretold Messiah.
John’s mandate was to “prepare the way” for this Messiah. Here, he points Him out – and names Him.
Confirmed by Old Testament prophecy, by His own miracles, and by His resurrection from the dead (among other things) Jesus is without doubt, the Christ – the anointed One. And this is simply confirmed by His forerunner, John.
Man has, since Adam, been dealing with a sin problem. It has separated us from our Holy God.
And without the shedding of blood, there is no remission (or pardon) for sin.
But no sacrifice born under the curse of sin is worthy.
Jesus was worthy, conceived of the Holy Ghost, born of a virgin, without sin – God made flesh. And His death in our place makes forgiveness possible. Praise the Lord!
