John 12:27-28 “Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say? Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour. Father, glorify thy name. Then came there a voice from heaven, saying, I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.”
Jesus tells Philip and Andrew just a few verses earlier that the hour is come “that the Son of man should be glorified.”
He is headed to the cross, where the sins of the world will be placed upon Him.
While He was troubled at the prospect of separation from His father, He acknowledges without reservation that this is His mission.
This cup of wrath will not pass from Him, but He will drink it willingly on our behalf – and for His father’s glory.
A voice from heaven confirms this. And those nearby wonder if they heard thunder or an angel.
Perhaps they know not the significance of this event or of Jesus’ statements. But soon enough they will.
He will be lifted up – and will draw all men to Him.
