Download Whithersoever thou goest
Luke 9:57-58 “And it came to pass, that, as they went in the way, a certain man said unto him, Lord, I will follow thee whithersoever thou goest. And Jesus said unto him, Foxes have holes, and birds of the air have nests; but the Son of man hath not where to lay his head.”
An expression of intention to follow Jesus is admirable. I wonder if this man understood what it would mean? Jesus made at least one thing clear: his life would lack comfort.
The life of a disciple is often uncomfortable. Jesus calls us to walk the narrow road, to be a living sacrifice, to deny self, and to take up our cross and follow Him. We know that those who live Godly in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution – and what our forebearers faced: wandering in deserts and in mountains and in dens and caves of the earth.
But we don’t follow Jesus to obtain a life of comfort and ease. Our comfort comes from within – for that’s where our Comforter dwells.
