I Thessalonians 4:13 “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. “
This passage offers an encouraging reminder about those who have died in Christ.
Believers who are left behind do not sorrow in the same way that others in the world may sorrow. God’s word tells us that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.
If we have placed our faith in a God who promises eternal life – One who has both the ability and the character to keep his promise – we have hope.
Instead of despair, we rejoice that our brothers and sisters in Christ are with Him, knowing there will be a reunion in heaven.
This makes us different. Our attitudes and our actions in times of loss will be characterized by this hope.
Scriptures like this and others remind us of the truth. It is up to us to embrace the truth, in reliance upon the Holy Spirit, who is our Comforter.
Thankfully, this hope (our salvation) is a free gift – one which we have the privilege of passing along others.
