Luke 4:18 “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,”
This is a partial outline of Jesus’ ministry and a list of the kinds of people to which He will minister.
He would reach out to the poor, the brokenhearted, the captive, the blind, and the bruised. He would be the solution to the difficulty and pain they faced.
There are both physical and spiritual applications.
The financially poor have a friend in Jesus, as do those who have no claim to the riches of eternal life.
The broken hearts of sinners and saints find healing only in Him. While those captive to sin or in chains for their own crimes should seek redress from the King of kings.
Those with no physical and no spiritual sight rely on Him for restoration, as do the bruised and broken.
He seeks out those who struggle through this world – having the compassion, the love, and the power to deliver.
