I John 4:7 “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God.”
The Bible tells us how God expects His children to treat one another. There are commands and specific instructions throughout the New Testament.
One thing we know: brothers and sisters in Christ should love one another.
This chapter describes what love looks like, explains where it comes from, and tells us which kind of people love in this way.
Love that is “of God” can be seen in the sending of His only son “to be the propitiation for our sins.”
This is a selfless love, that gives, and never considers what will be received in return.
It shows up in attributes like grace, and mercy, and kindness, and generosity, among other things.
People who love like this, it says here, are born of God and know God.
In short, He is the One who empowers people that know Him to love in this way. He builds in us the character we need to do it.
Staying close to Him, understanding His instructions from the Bible, and being obedient will start us down this loving path.
