Matthew 10:37 “He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.”
Jesus talks about giving up our lives for His sake throughout His ministry.
Just two verses later, He says “he that loseth his life for my sake shall find it.”
He makes it clear that simply adding Him to our list of priorities is not enough. Our very lives should be His, however He sees fit to use them.
But, we come to Christ with other loves, other concerns, other relationships. They don’t end at our salvation.
These family connections are critically important to us. But if it is a question of Jesus or family, how do we decide?
Jesus’ words in this verse leave no doubt.
Let’s be confident of this: God loves our family more than we do. He wants what is best for us, and what is best for them.
And He sees the entire picture, past, present, and future. He see it with perfect clarity.
We must love Him first, love Him most, love Him without reserve. Then love others.
